Argentine Senate Director Sparks Scandal Over Racist Comment

Buenos Aires, November 16 (NA)—A director appointed by Victoria Villarruel in the Senate sparked a strong controversy on social media after posting a racist comment accompanied by false information, which was debunked by the platform X itself (ex Twitter).

Key ruling stops banks: it is illegal to execute credit card debts in the singular way proposed.

According to the Argentine News Agency, the official Iris Speroni reacted on November 15 to a photo of a visitor from India in Buenos Aires with a xenophobic message: "They are going to fill the country with Indians."

Currently, she appears on the Senate website as "General Director: Iris Speroni" of the General Directorate of Institutional Relations.

At that moment, Speroni herself tweeted: "Dr. Villarruel honored me." "We reported in a timely manner."

To justify her comment, Speroni included a "fake news" about immigration in Canada: "Today - in just 10 years - they constitute 25% of Canada's population."

The false data was immediately corrected by notes from the X community. Below the official's tweet, a sign clarifies: "Readers added context... The Indian population in Canada is less than 5%, not 25%."

Speroni's link to the Vice President was confirmed in December 2023, when she was appointed "General Director of Audit and Management Control of the Senate."
